The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Elimination Chamber show set to take place on Sun., May 31, 2015, at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The event was planned and announced in a number of days, a surprise show done as a live special on the WWE Network during the free month of May to entice new subscribers.
The show is just six days away and here's how it looks:
- Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose (WWE world heavyweight championship)
Ambrose pinned Rollins on Raw to earn his way into the main event of Payback earlier this month. It was thought at the time the move was done to make the Lunatic Fringe the fall guy in that match so neither Roman Reigns nor Randy Orton would have to take a pinfall loss. As it turns out, Orton went down for the three second tan and Ambrose is getting another crack at the crown. They got there by having him threaten to murder Rollins in front of The Authority lest they give him his way, which, of course, they did.
- John Cena vs. Kevin Owens
The NXT heavyweight champion answered Cena's latest US title open challenge but instead of wrestling a match on Cena's terms, Owens laid him out with a powerbomb and later had Triple H give him a match at this show. Though there had been some confusion, WWE has confirmed that it is a non-title match.
- Elimination Chamber (Intercontinental championship)
When Daniel Bryan was forced to vacate the Intercontinental title due to injury, WWE quickly decided a new champion would be crowned in a Chamber match. The participants include: King Barrett, R-Truth, Ryback, Sheamus, Rusev, and Dolph Ziggler. Truth's inclusion in the match is baffling considering he isn't feuding with anyone else in the match. Barrett just won King of the Ring and was champion before Bryan won the title at WrestleMania 31. Ryback and Sheamus have started up a program while Rusev and Ziggler have done the same.
- Elimination Chamber (tag team championship)
For the first time ever, there will be a Chamber match featuring tag teams. The rules are that it will be contested under tornado rules, meaning each member of each team is in the ring at the same time. The pods will be filled with both members of the tag team as they wait to be released. Here are the teams competing in the match: The New Day, Los Matadores, Prime Time Players, Brass Ring Club, The Ascension, Lucha Dragons.
- Nikki Bella vs. Paige vs. Naomi (Divas championship)
When Paige returned from filming a movie, she went right after the woman who took her out of action, Naomi. She also went after Nikki because she still won that number one contender battle royal before she was written off. Naturally, a triple threat was booked.
That's the card as it stands right now. It's possible this is the completely line up due to there being two Chamber matches, which are lengthy affairs, but Neville vs. Bo Dallas has been rumored as another potential match on the card.
