Last year, occasional Cageside Seats Author BIGPALE hit us with an outstanding series ranking each and every WrestleMania main event in the history of WWE. You can go back and check all that out by clicking here.
I bring it up because WWE.com has now hit us with its list of the top 30 matches in the history of WrestleMania. The main difference here is that WWE is taking into account every match that ever took place at the "Showcase of the Immortals" as opposed to just the main event (the match that goes on last) but it's interesting to see the differences, as well as the reasons laid out for placement on the list.
Here's what WWE came up with (as always, click the link to read up in full):
30. Steve Austin vs. The Rock (15)
29. Bret Hart vs. Roddy Piper (8)
28. Undertaker vs. Edge (24)
27. Money in the Bank Ladder match (21)
26. Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle (20)
25. Mick Foley vs. Edge (22)
24. Undertaker vs. Triple H (28)
23. Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar (19)
22. Undertaker vs. CM Punk (29)
21. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels (23)
20. Undertaker vs. Triple H (27)
19. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho (19)
18. Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H (30)
17. Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair (24)
16. Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage (7)
15. Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage (5)
14. Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair (8)
13. The Rock vs. Hollywood Hogan (18)
12. Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan (6)
11. Hardy Boyz vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Edge & Christian (17)
10. Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle (21)
9. Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (10)
8. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (10)
7. Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels (12)
6. Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant (3)
5. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (26)
4. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (13)
3. Steve Austin vs. The Rock (17)
2. Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage (3)
1. Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (25)
I'm having a hard time arguing with the top five and even the top 10 is damn near spot on. The Hart vs. Michaels Iron Man match may be the most overrated bout in the history of pro wrestling, but there's an argument to be made for it at least.
What are your feelings on this, Cagesiders?
