About a week before the Royal Rumble, Alex Riley revealed he would be entering the match. When he didn't work the pre-show as an analyst, that seemed to indicate that's exactly what would happen.
Then, it didn't.
Immediately after, he started working a disgruntled wrestler gimmick on his Twitter that he's still going with as of this writing. Check it out:
