It was almost as unthinkable as what Brock Lesnar did to him to win the WWE championshop on Sunday night at SummerSlam - John Cena was kept off of Raw last night to sell the beating he took at the hands of the Beast Incarnate.
Enjoy it while you can, as Cena is billed to return next Monday, August 25, 2014 when Raw comes our way from Anaheim, California. Word around the dirt screens is that he'll respond to the loss from the Los Angeles pay-per-view (PPV), but you don't need sources to know that - you only need to have ever watched pro wrestling.
Not scheduled to appear on the next Monday night broadcast is the new champ. His advocate, Paul Heyman, could be there in his stead, but the Conquerer himself will presumably be at home in Minnesota.
While Lesnar doesn't speak much on WWE television, he did talk to TMZ Sunday night after his dominant performance at SummerSlam, and he cut a promo on Cena at their request:
I came, I saw, I conquered. I kicked your ass. Go home, lick your wounds, and I dare you - I double dog dare your ass to come back looking for another ass whoopin'.
That doesn't sound like something you'd say if you weren't planning on having to go another round with the guy, but that's pure conjecture on my part.
Brock isn't billed to appear on WWE television again until the September 15th Raw in Lafayette, Louisiana. That would be the go-home show for the next PPV, Night of Champions. That event has been rumored to be one of only two Sunday nights that he'll work between now and WrestleMania 31 - but as of right now, he's not listed on the bill for that show in Nashville on either WWE.com or the Ticketmaster website.
Will Lesnar be even more of absentee presence as champ that we originally thought? Or is he going to be dropping the title right back to a certain Ph. D. in Thuganomics as soon as he is kayfabe cleared from by the doctors.
The plot thickens, Cagesiders. Let us know what you think below, and stick with us - we'll bring you news and rumor on the WWE title picture as we get it!
