For months now, rumors have been hot and heavy that a Sheamus heel turn would be happening sometime over the summer. The thinking is there aren't many top level heels right now and with Batista leaving before long to do promotional work for his upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy blockbuster, someone is going to need to step up to take his place.
Who better than Sheamus?
Well, as it turns out, those rumors are true because he turned heel already.
Surprised? You aren't the only one.
Apparently, WWE booked Sheamus to Brogue Kick Dean Ambrose and toss him from the battle royal this past Monday night on Raw to not only win the U.S. title but complete his turn to the bad in the process. That's the word from the Wrestling Observer, at least.
This doesn't make a whole lot of sense, seeing as Sheamus didn't actually break any rules or do even do anything one could consider wrong. He simply took advantage of an opportunity to win a match the way anyone else would. He just so happened to be taking advantage of a situation against a good guy.
Maybe Jim Ross was onto something when he ranted on the status of heels in WWE not long ago...
In fairness, Sheamus did give an interview to Renee Young shortly after the match laughing off the fact that Ambrose was placed in an impossible situation in the battle royal. Still, it's a thin turn.
The two will rematch on SmackDown tonight. Follow along with the live blog for the show by clicking here.
