Many of us have been eagerly awaiting WWE's official compilation and documentary on Extreme Championship Wrestling founder and current WWE personality Paul Heyman.  WrestlingDVDNews.com brings us the synopsis of the release, scheduled for August 5, 2014, and a couple of things jump out at you.

  • The tone of the description, and the inclusion of alleged writing room rival Stephanie McMahon as a "featured interview", leads one to believe we're going to get at least a somewhat shoot-ish accounting of the more controversial elemets of Heyman's time at the top of ECW and in creative with WWE.
  • Highlighting Brock Lesnar's victory over Undertaker at WrestleMania 30 means the team has been buring the midnight oil to update this puppy and use this document to build the legend of the 1 in 21 and 1.
  • No reference to a certain Chicagoan who once famously declared himself a Paul Heyman guy.
  • Most of the names mentioned here are WWE employees.  One notable exception is Raven, who has been working the independents since last being seen on television with TNA around 2010.

No mention yet of if there will be an accompanying disc with best of promos, segments or even matches, but the Bobby Heenan set from a few years back did contain those things, so we can probably expect Heyman's set to get a similar treatment.

Here's the description:

One of the most controversial managers and figures in WCW, ECW and WWE History! For the first time ever, fans get the full story of the life and career of Paul Heyman. From his beginnings as a ringside photographer at MSG, to becoming a manager at WCW, then heading up the infamous ECW, Paul has his own unique brand of over-the-top, in your face entertainment that has developed him a cult-like following. Unfortunately his financial savvy didn't match his creative genius, and ECW was eventually purchased by WWE.

Since joining WWE, Paul has gone on to great heights, including managing Brock Lesnar, when he finally broke Undertakers WrestleMania Streak this year.

This collection includes great behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, with past and present talent talking about Paul's contribution to the world of sports-entertainment. Featuring interviews with Raven, Tommy Dreamer, Joey Styles, Mick Foley, Rob Van Dam, Stephanie McMahon and of course the man himself.

You can pre-order the disc at Amazon now.  Who's buying, and what are you hoping to get from The Advocate's WWE DVD?
