We knew UFC President Dana White would be meeting with CM Punk at tonight's UFC 181 pay-per-view in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we knew they would be discussing the possibility of his making a move to the Octagon to try his hand at mixed martial arts.
We did not know, nor expect, that an official announcement would be made that he has signed a multi-fight contact with the promotion and he is expected to make his debut sometime in 2015.
Yet, that's exactly what happened.
"This is my new career, 100-percent," Punk said. "I'm going to be full systems go."
Punk would not reveal who he will be training with but he did say it's likely he'll fight at middleweight (185-pounds) and after a test cut it's at least possible he can move down to the welterweight division (170). He confirmed there is no way he'll fight at light heavyweight (205).
More on this as it comes in.
