Sheamus heads to surgery; WWE injury might not have been totally storyline-driven

Former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus was written out of the company's Survivor Series plans on Raw this week, and what sounded like a standard kayfabe follow-up by the WWE.com played into rumors that the Celtic Warrior was fine and not in fact injured.

It seemed a little strange that as popular an act as the Irishman would be held off a show like this when WWE is hurting for star power.  He'd been gaining more respect from hardcore fans for his ring work of late, and many were openly hoping for a heel turn to bring his character work up to speed with his wrestling.

Now, if this photo and message he posted via Twitter is any indication, Sheamus may have been dealing with some lingering issues a la Ryback earlier this year that needed to be addressed.

No word on what the surgery he's tweeting about is for, or what the recovery time will be (we can only hope that it isn't for the buttock enhancement surgery he alludes to...recovery time from which is about a month).

When we learn more, we'll bring the news to you, Cagesiders.

In the meantime, this is another blow to a company that has already had to re-debut former supporting acts like Luke Harper and Erick Rowan straight into the main event of a pay-per-view (PPV).
