Report: TNA made a big play for CM Punk recently

Esther Lin/MMA Fighting

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), TNA recently made a big play to lure CM Punk into signing a deal with the company. The report states that it would be a deal similar to what Hulk Hogan got while he was there.

That is to say, he would make more money than anyone else on the roster and be the featured attraction at all times.

The idea, apparently, was that Punk, with his considerable popularity both from his days within WWE and the increased interest in him after he unexpectedly quit the promotion back in January and has largely disappeared since, would help TNA land a new television deal.

Whether that's true or not will remain a mystery, as Punk "expressed no interest in working in wrestling again".

That's consistent with what Paul Heyman believed to be true when he spoke on the subject roughly two months ago. The idea of Punk working for TNA or any company other than WWE at this stage of his career and with what he's accomplished is hard to consider, but you know what they say in wrestling.

Never say never and all that.

But if there is a guy you would say "never" for, it just might be Punk.
