WWE held its SmackDown taping tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for its special 15th Anniversary show. At the conclusion of the taping, it was announced to the live crowd that next year's Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV), scheduled for Sun., Jan. 25, 2015, will take place at the same arena.
The pre-sale for the show will be this coming Friday.
In addition, there are reports floating around, although our correspondent couldn't confirm as much, that WWE also announced the Royal Rumble match will feature 40 wrestlers in an over-the-top-rope battle royal instead of the usual 30. This would be the second time in history the company would have elected to do so, the first being back in 2011 for a match won by Alberto Del Rio.
There are quite a few wrestlers who are currently out right now, such as Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, and Batista, who could make returns by the time the Rumble rolls around.
And Philadelphia is one hell of a wrestling town.
This should be fun.
Thanks to our friend Morgan for passing along word from Philadelphia.
