Stephanie McMahon claims no truth to rumor that Total Divas cast members can't win the title

Not so long ago, rumors circulated that Vince McMahon has a rule that any cast member on Total Divas will not be allowed to win the Divas championship. That includes almost the entirety of the women's division, save for the likes of AJ Lee (the current titleholder), Paige, Alicia Fox, Emma, and Layla. It should be noted, however, that Paige and Fox will be joining the cast for the second half of season three.

So I guess we should prepare for endless AJ vs. Emma and/or Layla matches?

Maybe not.

In her recent interview with The Turnstile, Stephanie McMahon claimed there is no truth to these rumors:

YS: Is there any truth to the report that the wrestlers on Total Divas aren't allowed to win the Divas championship?

SM: Absolutely not. I honestly don't even know how that rumor got started.

YS: Last I checked, one of the talents addressed it, so I wanted to check with you.

SM: There is no policy. I think it would be awesome to have one of the Total Divas as our champion. I think it would drive interest in the storyline. I would never say never.

Part of the problem is Total Divas is filmed months in advance and by the time the episodes hit the air on the E! channel, feuds have already progressed beyond a certain point on WWE programming like Raw and SmackDown. That hasn't stopped WWE from attempting to sync the two up, even when it makes little sense to do so.

You know, because to hell with proper planning.

As for Stephanie's comments, while there may be no policy in place that doesn't mean there isn't an unwritten rule as the rumors, and some of the cast, have already suggested.

Considering there will only be three women not on the cast come January, we'll likely find out sooner rather than later.
