Here's a crazy rumor now floating around in the pro wrestling world: The WrestleMania XXX main event will be Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Triple H with control of WWE on the line. Yep.

Like this one.

Dave Meltzer revealed in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required but recommended) that one of the many plans WWE is working up as a possibility for the main event of WrestleMania XXX next year is a match between a returning Stone Cold Steve Austin -- who would be working his first match in some 11 years or so -- against Triple H with control of the company at stake.

I don't want to say working idea, because that's too strong a statement, but a working idea for next year's Mania main event is Austin vs. HHH, with the control of the company at stake, with Austin representing Vince. That would indicate HHH ends up as the heel because no way Austin comes back and is not the babyface. If that's the idea, we're talking a double turn since the simmering stuff so far as been HHH as the face (getting the face jokes in and being the one who says it doesn't matter what I think, it's all about business and what the fans want) and Vince as the heel (backing Vickie Guerrero, hiring Brad Maddox because he's mad and punishing the fans for not seeing Vickie's talents).

As has been noted about a million times, Austin is open to returning to WWE for at least one more match assuming the two sides can come to a favorable agreement. The working assumption has always been that if that were to happen, it would mean Austin vs. CM Punk, seeing as the two have been flirting with a feud for years now, with the company itself going so far as to position the two for a program in the event something could ever be worked out.

Of course, Austin coming back to work with Punk wouldn't guarantee a main event slot. That's not to say that's a requirement for "The Rattlesnake" to return, but when you're arguably the biggest superstar in the history of the company, you don't come back for a one-off on the undercard.

It's entirely possible, and probably likely, that none of this comes to fruition and, as Meltzer stated, it's simply one possibility among many for the plan at the biggest show of the year.

Still, it's fun to think of what that would look like. Anyone think it sounds like a solid plan, assuming it can come together?
