For those of you worried that Daniel Bryan falling short in the WWE championship Money in the Bank ladder match last night (Sun., July 14, 2013) at the pay-per-view (PPV) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, meant a feud with John Cena is off the table, that may not be the case.
That's because Dave Meltzer is saying the match is still on the table for SummerSlam and we'll see the direction the company plans on going in here in a couple weeks.
From the latest Wrestling Observer Radio show:
"No, no, no, it's Cena and Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam. ... Cena and Daniel Bryan are doing something. I don't know if it's off of Total Divas, which is why it was moved. I don't know that, I've had people hint that to me but it's an angle they're going to do in a couple of weeks. I don't think it's going to be done (on Raw tonight). It's something to the effect of Cena asks the crowd who they want to get the shot with the idea that the crowd is going to want Daniel Bryan and it's like the fan's choice even though they've actually made the choice for the fans. So that's the working idea of it right now, is something along those lines. ... I don't know, I've had people... people have speculated (sic) to me that it comes off Total Divas and apparently there's something that was at least filmed with the knowledge of this match happening, this program happening, to build to the program, but I don't know that like 100-percent exactly if that's going to be the catalyst. It makes sense that it would be but we'll have to wait and see. The idea is the fans will pick Daniel Bryan to get the shot. That's why he didn't win the ladder match, for that very reason because the fans are supposed to pick him and Randy Orton is going to cash in, hopefully as a heel, when he's good and ready."
The reason an angle between the two could be shot off the Total Divas reality show, which will start airing on the E! channel at the end of the month, is because Bryan and Cena are each dating one of the Bella Twins (Bryan is with Brie, Cena is with Nikki).
Knowing the show would expose as much, WWE apparently has decided to weave its storylines in with the reality show. There's no word on whether or not the Bellas will get involved in the program but if it's coming off an angle on Total Divas, it would make sense, right?
Still, this is why Bryan didn't need to win the red briefcase and Orton can find some new fire for his career after years of playing second fiddle and doing jobs to help get others over ... like Bryan himself.
Sound good?
