WWE may or may not have big plans for Dolph Ziggler with his winning the world heavyweight championship but the company is clearly unwilling to give up on either Jack Swagger, who has a gimmick Vince McMahon seems to love, or Alberto Del Rio, who is trying desperately to fill the shoes Rey Mysterio jumped out of.
That's because instead of giving Ziggler a hot new feud to kick off his title run, WWE has booked the three in a triple threat match for the Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV) on Sun., May 19, 2013, at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
From WWE.com:
At Extreme Rules, Dolph Ziggler will defend his newly captured World Heavyweight Championship against Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger in a fast-and-furious Triple Threat Match.
When Ziggler cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to seize the World Title from an injured Del Rio one day after WrestleMania, it was only a matter of time before the former titleholder would charge back into the fray and attempt to reclaim his championship gold. Before the bell could ring on his rematch one week later, however, Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter engineered a star-spangled roadblock, interrupting the impending showdown and viciously attacking Del Rio.
So instead of Del Rio and Swagger feuding with each other through mostly boring matches to increasingly disinterested crowds, WWE has managed to find a way to use Ziggler in the same way he was being used before he was world heavyweight champion.
There's no telling what that will mean for his title reign, if anything, but at least the matches will be good.
The Extreme Rules line up so far:
-- Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger vs. Alberto Del Rio
-- John Cena vs. Ryback*
-- Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar*
