When John Cena won the Royal Rumble match and The Rock won the WWE championship from CM Punk later on the very same evening, it seemed clear the rumors were true and the two would be headed for a rematch of their WrestleMania 28 encounter that drew the biggest buyrate in the history of the company.
After the events of last night's (Feb. 17, 2013) Elimination Chamber pay-per-view (PPV) in New Orleans, it is now confirmed. The rematch will headline this year's WrestleMania 29 event on Sun., April 7, 2013, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
From the WWE.com preview:
With The Rock and Cena informed by their epic encounter last year in Miami, both competitors will assuredly come to MetLife Stadium with a more sharpened focus than ever before. Cena is out to avenge last year's WrestleMania loss to The Great One. The Rock, on the other hand, appears intent on keeping the championship he waited more than a decade to reclaim - the title that represents the sport that not only propelled him to success on the silver screen, but also captured his heart and mind at a young age.
This is subject to change, of course, but it appears CM Punk will not be involved in the match in any capacity. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll be working with Undertaker as expected but it seems clear the direction WWE wants to go in.
At the press conference today to announce WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans, the two came face to face for a photo-op to hype the match:
Are you Cagesiders ready to see these two headline WrestleMania for the second year in a row? And with Cena losing last year, does that make the result all too predictable?
