WWE is in the process of announcing nominees (and presenters) for a number of categories for this year's version of the Slammy Awards and WWE.com today posted the nominees for "Match of the Year", an award that will be presented by one of the best in-ring technicians of all time, Bret Hart.
They are:
- Undertaker vs. CM Punk (WrestleMania 29)
- John Cena vs. The Rock (WrestleMania 29)
- Cody Rhodes & Goldust vs. The Shield (Battleground)
- Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar (Extreme Rules)
Depending on your criteria, each of these matches deserves a place on this list, at the very least. Cena vs. Rock may be widely panned but in terms of size and scope, it was far too important to leave off.
What's most interesting, though, is the fact that the dark horse that I would probably vote for, the Rhodes Brothers vs. The Shield, may not stand much of a chance thanks to the name value of its competition. Undertaker vs. CM Punk is a worthy contender but probably wasn't a better worked match than the absolute treat we were given at Battleground.
As for Triple H vs. Lesnar, well, it's there.
The WWE App is where you need to be to vote on these particular awards but don't forget the Cageside Seats Year-End Awards will be back in just over one week and we'll crown winners multiple categories, including this one.
In the meantime, let's get your thoughts on the matches up for the Slammy Award above.
