Brock Lesnar UFC return rumors are heating up again

Oh, this again. Great.

Although he retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition all the way back in 2011 after getting his ass handed to him by Alistair Overeem, his second embarrassing defeat in as many fights, there are still rumors floating around that Brock Lesnar, now a big star for WWE again, will eventually make his return to MMA.

According to the rumor mill, that might be sooner than we think.

According to the folks at MMAFighting.com, Brock Lesnar will apparently be in attendance at the UFC 168: "Weidman vs. Silva 2" pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for this Sat., Dec. 28, 2013, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. That has led many to wonder if he'll be meeting with UFC President Dana White about a possible comeback.

From the Fighting story:

During Thursday's post-press conference media scrum, UFC president Dana White was asked point blank if the UFC would take the opportunity to talk business with Lesnar.

"I honestly don't know," he said, repressing a grin like a man who just might know more than he wanted to say. "Honestly?" somebody goaded. "Honestly," White said, "I don't know."

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. Lesnar actually attended UFC 146 in Las Vegas last year before a meeting with White discussing a potential return to the UFC. There were rumblings that White was getting worked but that turned out not to be the case, at least not of Vince McMahon's doing. In fact, word started getting around that Brock was actually going to make the move back to the Octagon and the way he went about it put "nuclear" heat on him from WWE. Ultimately, White revealed his meeting with Lesnar "couldn't have gone worse" and the matter was laid to rest soon thereafter.

Now, it seems, we might be in for another roller coaster ride.

The timing of this is interesting, if nothing else, simply because the new year is just around the corner and that means we're on the "Road to WrestleMania". Lesnar is rumored to be in the plans to work one of the most important matches on that show, challenging Undertaker's legendary streak.

Stay tuned.
