John Cena has already promised to "bring back focus and honor" to the world heavyweight championship after winning it from Alberto Del Rio at the WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) back on Oct. 27, 2013, in Miami, Florida.
But what does that mean, really?
Well, it could mean holding it for an extended period of time and defending it at the biggest show of the year, WrestleMania XXX. In fact, Cena himself is claiming that's exactly what's going to happen.
From a recent interview with The Times-Picayune:
"This is not taken as a shot of disrespect to anyone who has held the title before me, but it's now viewed as a second-tier championship. (Defending it at WrestleMania 30) will truly put a stamp on making it the real deal. I want the WWE universe to realize that it's not a second-tier championship. It should be treated with as much respect as the WWE title."
What makes this interesting is that PW Insider reported not long ago that there have been discussions within the creative team of a WWE championship vs. World heavyweight title match at WrestleMania. In recent years, the "Showcase of the Immortals" has become an attraction based event featuring big names from days gone by, like The Rock. If he doesn't work the show next year, and Stone Cold Steve Austin isn't available either, a WWE title vs. World title bout would certainly help cushion the blow.
Perhaps CM Punk will finally get his wish to headline the show opposite Cena with both belts up for grabs. Anyone thinking unification?
