WWE setting up Rob Van Dam hiatus

Rob Van Dam is likely taking time off from WWE after "Battleground" and the promotion is setting up for as much in a recent article on the company website.

If you've been enjoying having Rob Van Dam back in WWE -- and he's been having some damn good matches since coming back -- I've got some bad news. The promotion is setting up him to go on hiatus, possibly starting with tonight's (Oct. 7, 2013) episode of Monday Night Raw.

From WWE.com:

Now, with the golden losses beginning to pile up, a source has indicated that the ECW Original is considering taking some time off. While WWE.com cannot confirm or deny this rumor at this time, it will be interesting to see whether further details will come to light tonight on Monday Night Raw.

That's a nice little teaser to get fans to tune in to a show many of them are likely considering skipping after the finis to the Battleground pay-per-view (PPV) last night in Buffalo. On that same card, RVD lost a second straight world heavyweight title match to Alberto Del Rio, this one in a Hardcore Rules match where he sold out his body to get it over.

And it worked.

Still, as my colleague Keith Harris brought word of just over one week ago, WWE management was reportedly unhappy with him for dragging his feet on signing a new contract, as his currently deal apparently expired on Oct. 1, though an agreement was in place to get him to work for an additional week. That looks to be the actual reason he's going on hiatus.

Remember, he wanted a decreased schedule, which might include a few months on before a few months off.

We'll find out more at Raw tonight, so be sure to follow along with the live blog by clicking here.
