As WWE gets closer and closer to WrestleMania 29 on April 7, 2013, the company is taking advantage of every opportunity it can get to promote next year's big event at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
That includes having its performers showing up at New York Jets football games.
This time it's John Cena, who will serve as honorary team captain for their game against the Indianapolis Colts this coming Sunday. From the WWE Twitter account:
"WWE Superstar @JohnCena will serve as @NYJets honorary captain at Sunday's game vs. @NFLColts & lead the J-E-T-S #JetsJetsJets! chant!"
While WWE has very clear motivations for doing this, what do the Jets get out of it? I'm not superstitious by any stretch but the last time a WWE performer showed up at MetLife -- Lilian Garcia performing the National Anthem and singing at hafltime -- the team was shutout by the San Francisco 49ers, 34-0.
The 49ers are a lot better than the Colts but if New York gets blown out again, I think at that point we can blame WWE, right? Certainly nothing good can come of Tim Tebow and John Cena being in the same stadium at the same time, right?
