WWE SmackDown results, live blog (April 16, 2015): Open challenges

WWE.com

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (April 16, 2015) from London, England with a taped show on the SyFy channel featuring all the latest build to the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled for later this month in Chicago.

Because SmackDown is a taped show, you can simply go read the spoilers to know everything that happens (find them by clicking here). We will provide results with a live blog below anyway.

You can use this space to discuss all the events as they occur, however, and it's probably going to enhance your viewing experience. In fact, I know it is because we're a lot of fun around here.

Enjoy the show!

SMACKDOWN RESULTS

The General here tonight.

John Cena was out first for his open challenge. He thanked London for being rowdy. The usual. Then he explained the rules to the Russian Chain Match with Rusev at Extreme Rules. It's essentially a Strap match but with a chain.

Thankfully, he got right to the point and called out whoever wanted to face him for the US title. The Brass Ring Club were out. They ignored the open challenge and said they're the greatest champions in WWE today.

FACT!

They got heat by saying London doesn't deserve a WrestleMania. Then they repeated that they're the best champions, so Cena challenged one of the two of them to a fight.

Daniel Bryan's music hit and he came out dressed in his gear, shirtless even, with the Intercontinental title around his waist. He came out because he heard some talk of the greatest champions in WWE today. He polled the fans, then told the Brass Ring Club to prove they're the best champs in WWE by facing Cena and Bryan later tonight in a tag team match.

Natalya accepted. Kidd acted upset at first, then reiterated his wife's words. Cesaro also acted upset, but the match is on.

Bray Wyatt vs. R-Truth

Michael Cole tells us Wyatt calls his fans "fireflies," in reference to his entrance. That's ... something.

Truth came out of the gate flying, getting in some good offense. Bray came back and made it a squash.

Apologies, Cagesiders, but I missed a chunk of this show. So this is skipping ahead to the second hour.

The New Day vs. Los Matadores

When New Day came out, they responded to the "sucks" chants by maintaining that they'll clap so they don't snap. It is, of course, encouraging the negative chants.

The match was chaotic right away and featured everyone getting involved all over the place. Los Matadores missed a backcracker and Big E and Kofi Kingston hit their finish for the pin.

They did not like the chants after.

They showed a backstage bit with Fandango breaking up with Rosa Mendes. Just then, Adam Rose walked by, stopped, backed up, and told her if she makes the right move she just may be number one again in a certain somebody's life.

Dun dun dun...

Big Show was out for a promo, introduced as the winner of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. He said it was clear on Raw that people from England suck and none of them can stop him. Then again, no one in the world can stop him, including Roman Reigns.

Show respects what Reigns did going toe-to-toe with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania but he doesn't answer to anyone other than The Authority.

"If The Authority says 'jump,' I say 'how high?'"

He said he sees Reigns as a victim, and went over the beat down he handed out at Raw with a set that look suspiciously like the exact same set they used on Raw in the exact same arena in the exact same city.

Finally, he got around to saying that he could have finished Reigns off right then and there but he wants to do it on his time and his way. So at Extreme Rules he'll face Reigns in a Last Man Standing match.

"When I'm done with Roman Reigns he won't be the last man standing. Respect that."

Good one, Show.

Cameron vs. Natalya vs. Alicia Fox

This match was set up by Cameron beating the other two down after refereeing a match between them on SmackDown last week. They gave them a few minutes to work with and while Natalya was in control for a lot of the match, Alicia Fox got ahead late and appeared to be near victory when Cameron came in and stole a win from her.

That led to Alicia throwing a fit in the ring.

Fandango vs. Adam Rose

A nothing match won quickly by Fandango, who is still using his old theme.

John Cena & Daniel Bryan vs. Brass Ring Club

They, of course, edited out the troll group rushing the ring and performing an impromptu match. The heels worked over Cena to set up Bryan for the hot tag. He came in and completely took over the match, kicking both Cesaro and Kidd around before moving out of the way of a charging Kidd, who hit Natalya. Cesaro caught her off the apron but Bryan got the Yes! Lock on Kidd. Cesaro then dumped Natalya and ran in but Cena hit the AA on him just before Kidd tapped to give the babyfaces the win.

End.
