When WWE and SyFy moved SmackDown back to Thursday nights on Jan. 15, it wasn't the only change for the blue brand. The commentary team was also reshuffled, with Jerry Lawler moving over from Monday Night Raw and Byron Saxton replacing Tom Phillips while Michael Cole took over blow-by-blow duties.
When it happened, WWE offered no explanation as to why Phillips was demoted. For the past couple weeks, he hasn't spoke on the matter either.
Until now.
From an interview with Action News 6 in Philadelphia:
"The way I look at it is I am young in this company and I still have a lot to learn and it's just another opportunity for me to get better."
Kudos to Phillips for taking the high road despite the demotion so soon after the promotion. He wasn't ripped off camera completely, however, as he's now backstage doing interviews for "Raw" and "SmackDown" fallout shows.
