WWE SmackDown may be moving to Thursday nights on SyFy

Social media exploded with photos of WWE production trucks last night showcasing said trucks with both the new company logo that will be featured across all platforms soon -- including that new WWE championship title teased earlier here -- and an ad for SmackDown airing on SyFy on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET.

That would mean, of course, that the show would be moved from its current slot on Friday at the same time.

As of yet, neither WWE or SyFy has made any public comments on the matter. If you'll remember, part of WWE's offer to potential television partners when it was negotiating a new rights deal was making SmackDown a live show or, at the very least, moving nights.

Once the new TV deal with NBCUniversal was announced, the only comment made on SmackDown's status was that it "currently" airs on Friday nights. Nothing more. That led to speculation, of course, that a change would be coming, perhaps as soon as the announcement of the fall schedule.

That schedule has yet to be introduced but that will change soon enough and it appears likely, though it is not confirmed, that SmackDown will now be airing on Thursday nights.

It would be an interesting decision to say the least. The NFL recently cut a deal with CBS to air the first half of its Thursday Night Football schedule on network television. That will last only half the season but games still manage to draw upwards of 5-6 million viewers on the NFL Network.

Again, none of this is confirmed, but there's smoke here. We'll let you know if there's fire when that becomes clear.
