With it being the holiday season, WWE taped as much television as possible to air just before the year ends. That includes hitting Rochester, New York, back on Dec. 19, 2012, to tape the episode of SmackDown that will air on Dec. 28 on SyFy. That means full spoilers are readily available if you're the impatient type who doesn't want to wait another couple days for the payoff.
Unwrap that present early (via Wrestling Observer):
-- Big Show and Sheamus get things started arguing over the latter getting another title shot against the former. Booker T settles it by, and I shit you not, breaking out a tumbler with names to pick one at random. The winner wasn't Sheamus. It was Santino Marella.
-- Brodus Clay def. Epico quick, leading to Rosa Mendes getting pissed and screaming at the Funkasaurus. Cameron and Naomi took her out for it.
-- A backstage segment is show with Sheamus trying to teach Santino the Brogue Kick. The result is Marella messing up his groin.
-- The Rhodes Scholars & Wade Barrett def. Team Hell No & Kofi Kingston with Barrett getting the pin on Kofi. Funny how that happens.
-- Another backstage segment has Booker T informing Big Show Santino was hurt and he wouldn't be wrestling him later. So they had to find a new opponent for him, which turned out to be Ricardo Rodriguez. If that sounds like a joke, it was, and Show recognized as much by punching him out.
-- Antonio Cesaro def. Zack Ryder in a jobber's delight match.
-- Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz after a distraction from AJ Lee and Big E. Langston. Miz ran his mouth afterward and the big man destroyed him for it.
-- Backstage again and Booker was with a doctor who was tending to Rodriguez to see if he was cleared to wrestle. The verdict? Of course not, the dude was just knocked out with the WMD. This lead to Brad Maddox showing up and asking for another shot while Alberto Del Rio showed up and seethed at the situation. Both guys got what they wanted, with Maddox getting another match and Del Rio getting Show.
-- Sheamus def. Maddox in another squash. He doesn't have a contract with the company but he wrestles more than guys who do.
-- The Usos def. Prime Time Players. I hated writing that.
-- Show def. Del Rio via disqualification after Sheamus did a run in. The champ tried to bail but ended up getting tossed back in the ring by a group of wrestlers who watched on while Sheamus hit the Brogue kick to close the show.
That's the show, folks. How does it sound to you?
