Randy Orton written off television at SmackDown tapings in injury angle involving The Shield

After rumors surfaced that Randy Orton suffered a wrist injury at the Tribute to the Troops tapings this past weekend, WWE wrote him off television at the SmackDown tapings last night in an injury angle involving a beatdown from The Shield.

Rumors and reports have been flying for a few days now that Randy Orton was injured at the Tribute to the Troops tapings in Virginia this past Sunday night (Dec. 9) with some sort of wrist issue.

Now, we know he really is hurt.

That's because WWE shot an injury angle to write him off television at the SmackDown tapings last night in Bridgeport, according to the Wrestling Observer. He was attacked backstage by The Shield and it was later announced on the show that he suffered a separated shoulder.

Obviously that means Orton won't be working the TLC pay-per-view (PPV) this Sunday night in Brooklyn, though WWE Creative hadn't bothered to come up with anything for him anyway. Maybe the time off will do him some good and maybe they can put that rumored plan into place to turn him heel upon his return.

Either way, he's out for a while. Anyone going to miss him?
