Sami Zayn injury is reportedly a storyline, was planned from the start of Raw

WWE on Twitter

Lots of folks, including yours truly, were alarmed by Sami Zayn being written out of tonight's Fatal 4Way main event on Raw.

There had been reports from American Airlines Center in Dallas, where the WrestleMania Fallout show was taking place, that he injured a wrist - or worse, reinjured the shoulder on which he had surgery last year he just recently returned from - precipitating the scene where Kevin Owens powerbombed him through a table backstage.

Cesaro replaced him, AJ Styles won to become the next #1 contender to Roman Reigns' WWE World Heavyweight championship, and the show rolls on.

Those developments are storyline, and per Mike Johnson from PWInsider, it's because the whole thing was an angle, and Cesaro was set for this role all night.

Not surprising, considering Zayn had already taken part in two bruising matches in the last three days - Friday's NXT TakeOver: Dallas battle with the debuting Shinsuke Nakamura, and yesterday's ladder match for the Intercontinental title. It also moves his feud with Owens along without him taking another high profile loss.

So, get some rest, Sami. We'll stick to worrying about booking decisions.
