Tonight's (May 5, 2014) episode of Monday Night Raw in Albany, New York, kicked off with a 20-man over the top rope battle royal for the United States championship. The idea was Triple H was booking a match Dean Ambrose, the titleholder going in, couldn't possibly win.
And he didn't.
After a fairly exciting match, Ambrose eliminated Curtis Axel, Ryback, and Jack Swagger but turned around into a Brogue Kick and was tossed out by Sheamus, losing his U.S. title in the process. Ambrose's Shield stablemates, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, were ringside for the match but offered no assistance.
Just reassurance and back patting after.
Sheamus did not officially turn heel here but the crowd wasn't entirely sure how to react to his victory. He was cheered, which may have been more for the title change itself (it felt genuinely surprising), but he was also booed.
Stay tuned.
