WWE Raw ratings (Oct. 6, 2014): Viewers down despite The Rock's surprise return

WWE.com

Last week's episode of Monday Night Raw was focused on pushing Dean Ambrose heavily as the number two babyface in the company. It worked out fairly well in the ratings, as the show averaged just over four million viewers for the first time during football season.

They couldn't continue the momentum this week.

The heavy promotion for the show was centered around an interview with Roman Reigns -- one that was ultimately a monumental waste of time and lasted all of a couple minutes -- and finally booking the Hell in a Cell card (they did just that by announcing John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose with the winner getting Seth Rollins later in the evening).

The result? 3.79 million viewers and not a single hour hitting the four million mark.

Hour one: 3.57 million
Hour two: 3.89 million
Hour three: 3.92 million

If nothing else, the show gained viewers all throughout the evening and The Rock's surprise return to confront Rusev and Lana undoubtedly played a big part in that. There was plenty of outside competition in the Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Monday Night Football game on ESPN, which did just over 13 million viewers, and the MLB Playoffs, which did just under three million.
