When Undertaker and CM Punk meet up inside the ring tomorrow night (Sun., April 7, 2013) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as one of the co-main event matches at WrestleMania 29, it will not be the first time the two have collided on pay-per-view (PPV) in WWE.
No, the last time that happened was when they were feuding in 2009 over the world heavyweight championship. They worked a series of matches at Breaking Point, Hell in a Cell, SmackDown, and Bragging Rights, respectively. The match at Bragging Rights also included Rey Mysterio and Batista, so it stands that the last time they met in a singles encounter on PPV was at Hell in a Cell in a match of the same name.
So how was it? See for yourself:
Not bad but nothing special, right? Now just imagine that both guys have almost four more years of wear and tear, are four years older, and are both without hair.
Yeah, it's a scary thought.
Then again, both men have achieved an entirely new level of superstardom in the time between that match and the one they will have tomorrow night at the "Showcase of the Immortals." And, as Punk stated, whatever is lacking in workrate they hope to more than make up for in sheer emotion.
We'll see if they can pull it off.
