Ric Flair’s stylin’ and profilin’ ways have long made him a perfect fit as a hip-hop icon and pitchman. Now, the Nature Boy is branching out, and lending his oratorical and promotional acumen to... alternative rock acts from the 90s and aughts?
Sure, why not.
While Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy aren’t bands I associate with Rolex-wearing and jet-flying, everybody likes to party, right?
Maybe it was with a heavy dose of hipster irony, but Rivers Cuomo’s music’s often embraced a Van Halen-meets-50 Cent-esque love of extravagance. If you’ve seen them live, or checked out American Idiot on Broadway, you know Billie Joe Armstrong & company aren’t afraid to mount a showy, WrestleMania-like production. And Pete Wentz must at least be a wrestling fan, since he blew the HELLA MEGA TOUR budget to sign Naitch.
So, yeah, it works well enough. Ric’s gotta fund that lawsuit against WWE somehow.
