While not as newsworthy as their first night of Impact Wrestling tapings in Orlando this week, Tuesday night’s filming - which should make up the episodes which will air on Pop TV on Oct. 20 and 27 - do feature Cody (Rhodes) in-ring debut for TNA. Do they also represent the end of his run for Dixie Carter’s company?
We’ll know more soon, as taping run through Sat., Oct. 8. Here’s what happened on the 4th:
- House Hardy def. the Decay in a Lethal Lockdown match to retain their tag titles. Broken Matt escaped the cage for the win.
- Bobby Lashley def. Moose
- Aron Rex was the guest on Eli Drake’s “Fact of Life” talk show. EC3 interrupted. After a while, so did Jessie Godderz. After a brawl broke out and they were split up, a tag match was announced for later/”next week”.
- Mike Bennett def. Mahabali Shera. Maria Kanellis was at ringside.
- Maria remained out for the next segment, and she was joined by Laurel Van Ness & Allie. Kanellis blamed Allie for her losing the Knockouts title to Gail Kim. Allie finally snapped and attacked Maria, but Laurel beat her down. Maria makes a match between Van Ness and Allie for “next week” (even though I thought she lost control of the division?)
- Eddie Edwards def. Cody Rhodes to retain the TNA World title. Both men went for a pin and their position resulted in both of their shoulders being down at the same time. Officials reviewed and declared Eddie the winner. Cody hesitated, but raised Edwards hand. Maria ran in to attack Brandi, who was ringside, and an intergender match is announced for “next week”, Bennett & Maria vs. Cody & Brandi.
- Drake & Rex def. EC3 & Godderz
- A segment with the Hardyz, including Brother Nero singing “Obsolete”, ends when the Tribunal attacks the tag champs.
- Comedy segment where Grado auditions to be a BroMans for Robbie E gets cut off when the lights go (on purpose). A trio of black-masked guys run-in and beat up the pair while “DCC” flashes on the screen.*
- Cody & Brandi Rhodes def. Miracle & Maria via double submission
* The latest force to invade TNA came dressed in black suits with white ties and white masks (shout out to Vic Venom on Twitter for hilariously labeling them “Los Ingoberacesneights”). According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, the trio is James Storm, Bram and Eddie Kingston.
Storm & Bram have been off television for a while (and the Cowboy was written off with a fake farewell which briefly had people thinking he was headed back to NXT). Kingston was just at the WWE tryout last week, so...
More tapings tonight!
