Aron Rex (formerly Damien Sandow) debuted on Impact, 90 days after being released from WWE earlier this year. Many fans saw this as a chance for the man to succeed now that he was away from the confines of WWE.
Tonight at Bound for Glory (Oct. 2, 2016), Rex found some of that success by winning the first ever TNA Grand Championship in a match against Eddie Edwards.
The new title is fought under a more MMA style, with three rounds of five minutes that the judges score. If someone doesn’t win by pinfall or submission, the judges score the round. This match, which lost lighting at one point, went to the final round and Rex won by split decision, but it gives the former Savior of the Masses his first singles title on a televised promotion.
It looks like for the time being, Aron Rex is getting that chance people hoped he would get in TNA. Excited for the title win?
