If a pro wrestling promotion goes to the trouble of building up a guy by having him win a months long tournament with a prize of a title shot at the biggest show of the year, it only makes sense to pay that off by having said guy actually win the title at said show, right?
That's exactly what happened at Bound for Glory tonight (Oct. 14, 2012) in Phoenix, Arizona, when Jeff Hardy, the Bound for Glory Series winner, pinned Austin Aries to win the TNA heavyweight championship.
Let's just hope he doesn't bring back that abomination he called a title.
It's worth pointing out that this was the likely result not just because it made sense in the storyline, or booking meetings, or business, but because TNA is hopeful it can convince Hardy to re-sign next February when his contract comes up by appeasing him via building him up and having him win the major title at the major show.
Now that he's done so, and was put over big by Aries, who gave him a great match, the company is well on its way to making sure Hardy puts pen to paper.
But is that a good thing? Will it make for good TV?
Stay tuned.
