Precap to the Jan. 17, 2013 episode of TNA 'Impact Wrestling', or the one after 'Genesis'

Previewing the Jan. 17, 2013 episode of TNA "Impact Wrestling", the fall-out show to "Genesis", featuring the repucussions of Jeff Hardy retaining the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, a wedding between Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan, the ongoing shenanigans of Aces & 8s, and the reslts of Gut Check!

Hardy! Aries! Roode! Now What? TNA World Heavyweight Championship!

Jeff Hardy defeated both Austin Aries and Bobby Roode on Sunday's Genesis (Jan. 13) to retain the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Yes, "The Charismatic Enigma" is still king of the Impact Wrestling Zone.

The question becomes, "Who is next in line to the throne?"

Aries and Roode have been doing amazing work the past few weeks, and I wouldn't be too surprised if they were put in a storyline together. If there's one thing TNA is extremely good at, it's not falling prey the to traditional face vs. heel alignment. Characters either switch sides or find a middle ground between the extremes. I have no doubts that Aries vs. Roode will be a great feud.

That is, if TNA lets it happen.

The roster is looking pretty thin as of late. Aces & 8s have tied up a lot of talent. Bully Ray is still dealing with Brooke and Hulk Hogan. James Storm is available, but for some reason I just don't see that happening. AJ Styles is banned from winning the championship for a year, so unless he is going to start wearing a mask he won't get a shot. I would love to see Christopher Daniels chasing gold, but it seems TNA will never let him near the main event.

So, unless I am missing someone, we may get another round of Hardy vs. Aries vs. Roode.

I'm not going to complain too much, as it's been great fun watching these three go at it. But at some point, things have to change. I'm a fan of everyone having storylines, but you need to tie some of them off at the same time. People need to cross over so things don't get stale.

The fact those other angles are garbage, just makes everything more depressing.

We'll just have to wait and see who Hardy's next challenger will be. Hopefully, someone will step up to the plate, but I have my doubts. So best prepared for Hardy/Aries/Roode II.

Edit: It was brought to my attention by Cagesider sioux1337 that the Daniels vs. Storm match was for a title shot on the Jan. 24 episode of Impact Wrestling. So Daniels will be next in line for the title. Mea Culpa, my dear Cagesiders, for not catching this.

Bully! Brooke! Hulk! Weddings! Marriage! Nothing! Could! Go! Wrong!

You read that right, Cagesiders. The Impact Zone will be host of the most sacred of traditions.

That's right. A professional wrestling wedding!

Last week (Jan. 10) Bully Ray got down on one knee and proposed to the lovely Brooke Hogan as Hulk stared in complete shock. These two love birds are flipping the bird to all who have wanted to keep them apart. It is a beautiful thing when love prevails, and I'm sure nothing will go wrong tonight.

Nope. Nothing at all. Everything will go swimmingly.

I've long been a proponent of this entire angle, and I'm glad to see my faith has been rewarded. This has gotten so out of control insane that it's been one of the most entertaining parts of Impact Wrestling. That may be saying more about the state of Impact than anything else, but tonight is too special to pay attention to that.

Bully and Brook will exchange vows, rings, and bodily fluids as they usher in the Hogan-Ray Era. Something crazy will happen, but exactly what is still up in the air.

Although, wouldn't it be "So TNA" to have a pro wrestling wedding, and have it go off without a hitch?

Aces & 8s! Sting! D.O.C! Park! Devon! Joe! Anderson!

Sting defeated D.O.C at Genesis. Joseph Park lost to Devon, but briefly showed off his inner Abyss. Mr. Anderson defeated Samoa Joe. These are things that happened. And this is all I'm going to say about Aces & 8s.

Everything Else! Bullet Points!

  • Velvet Sky won the Gauntlet Match to become the new #1 Contender to Tara's Knockout Championship. It will be a shame if Tara drops the belt, but she has won the best prize of all; one Jessie Godderz.
  • Last week's Gut Check contestants Jay Bradly and Brian Cage find out if either of them have earned a TNA contract. Neither really stood out, but we'll see what happens.

Hopefully, this has prepared you for the night's festivities. Leave a comment below about what you are looking forward to, and please join the entire CSS Thursday night gang in the live blog!
