TNA 'Genesis' Preview: Kenny King vs. Christian York for the #1 Contendership to the X Division Championship

X Division #1 Contender Tournament Final: Kenny King vs. Christian York

Two TNA newcomers put it all on the line for a chance to battle Rob Van Dam for the X Division Championship.

The Road to Genesis

Kenny King has had a long and winding path to get to this point. He was working with TNA in 2005-06, but failed to win a single match in that timeframe. He would move to Ring of Honor (ROH) to gain some experience. King would win the ROH World Tag Team Championship before trying his hands at greener pastures.

King won his first match in TNA on July 5, qualifying him for the X Division Championship tournament at Destination X. He would eventually lose in an Ultimate X match for the title against Zema Ion. King faced Rob Van Dam at Final Resolution 2012 (Dec. 9), but once again failed to achieve the ultimate goal.

Now, he looks to get one more chance at the strap, having defeated Ion in the first round of the X Division #1 Contender Tournament on the Jan. 10 episode of Impact Wrestling. But he still has to go through Christian York in order to get to RVD.

Christian York appeared on the Nov. 1, 2012 episode of Impact Wrestling as a Gut Check contestant. The judges were so impressed by his work, that he was granted a TNA contract the following week (Nov. 7). Although he has only been in TNA for a short time, York has already faced off against TNA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy and X Division Champion Rob Van Dam in non-title matches. He would lose them both, but he certainly impressed someone in the back.

York defeated Kid Klash on the Jan. 3 episode of Impact Wrestling, his first win in TNA, to move to the finales of the #1 Contender Tournament.

What's at Stake?

For both men, this is a chance to stand out among the TNA roster. A win would send the victor to face Rob Van Dam later in the evening with the X Division Championship on the line. Failure would send the loser back to the bottom of the division. These opportunities don't come around often, and they need to be taken advantage of when they present themselves.

Who will win the chance to go one on one with the "Whole F'n Show?" The only way to find out is to order TNA Genesis and stick around here at Cageside Seats TONIGHT!
