Hardy! Aries! Bully! Storm! Angle! Anderson! (?) Championship Thursday! TNA World Heavyweight Championship!
TNA has set up the next chapter for Impact Wrestling. Tonight, Hulk Hogan will choose between Bully Ray, James Storm, Kurt Angle or Mr. Anderson, to face Jeff Hardy for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. It's quite a lineup of the "who's who" in TNA. Each deserves a shot at the title, and each would be an interesting addition to the main event. (Except for Mr. Anderson, but it seems his only job is to lose to the stars of TNA. He's basically a bizzaro Dolph Ziggler.) However, as nice as said list looks, it seems to be missing someone.
Like "The Greatest Man That Ever Lived."
Austin Aries does have a rematch clause in his contract, yet he is waiting for the perfect opportunity to invoke it. It will be interesting to see how Aries decides to "cash-in," but at the very least we know Aries will be hanging around the championship picture, which is always a good thing.
There's been some debate about if TNA botched Aries' heel turn or if Hardy is able to handle being the top babyface. Sometimes, though, we get so caught up in the good guy/bad guy dynamic of that other promotion, we try to confine the Impact Wrestling Zone inside the same box. Austin Aries is a jerk; he's been a jerk his entire career. He never really "turned face," he just started to get cheered and fought against people who were bigger jerks than he. Jeff Hardy is Jeff Hardy. He's a guy who thinks he's far more creative and popular than he is, yet has enough of a following to back it up. The only thing he's doing differently than usual is the whole "getting stoned before a match" thing. That's something that should be commended.
So we have two guys who legitimately don't like each other, or they are just amazing actors. We have four three potential challengers who would each fit into the main event perfectly. There's a mix of good guys, bad guys, and guys who just want to win. We have a championship match tonight, and while it will most likely end in some type of schmoz finish, it'll at least tell us what direction TNA is leaning towards.
Don't look now, Cagesiders, but TNA's title picture is starting to come together pretty nicely. I guess the question is how will TNA screw it up?
Everything Else! Bullet Points!
- Until TNA gives me something new with Aces & 8s, I have nothing new to say. I like Devon as the "Sergeant at Arms". I hate Hogan as the "Old Guy Who Won't Leave". I like wondering what will happen next. I hate when it is always a brawl. We have two more weeks until Turning Point (Nov. 11), so I guess we just have to wait this out.
- You know who I seriously, honestly (no sarcasm or irony involved) L-O-V-E? Tara and Jessie Godderz. First, they are a beautiful looking couple. Beautiful people should just be with other beautiful people. That's common sense. Second, they actually have chemistry together. If they were in a real movie, I wouldn't doubt their characters' love for a second. Third, you know it will just blow up when one of them cheats on the other one. Like a high school relationship, the writing is on the walls. I know no one else cares about the Knockouts, but screw you guys. I want to see more of this.
- Rob Van Dam will defend his X Division title (shudders) against Zema Ion. Yes, I know this match just happened. Yes, I know this is dumb. No, I don't know why TNA is doing it. Yes, the milk in the fridge is still good, so just pour it into your Golden Grahams and stop asking me questions.
- One final thing about Hardy's TNA Championship title: don't act like the original design wasn't garbage. I have a kid's replica WWE World Heavyweight Championship hanging in my room and that looks better than what Aries was carrying around. If one of the perks of being champion means getting to change the belt, than I am all for it. But TNA should at least be consistent and have every champion have their own style.
Hopefully, this has gotten you prepared for the night's festivities. Leave a comment about what you are excited about, and please join Nolan, myself, and the whole Thursday Night cSs gang in the live blog right here tonight!
