Rey fights back, chair to the midsection, Rollins dodges a shot with it and folds him over the announce table, grabbing a pen to try and gouge his eye out! Turnbuckle wrench, Seth misses and Mysterio puts him eye-first into the corner of the announce table! Using the chair himself now, Rollins fights Rey off and waffles him from behind with it!

Seth ties Mysterio to the bottom rope with a length of string! Rey headbutts him away, kicks, a short headscissors puts Rollins face-first into the post and gives him the time to untie himself. Seth with a kendo stick, he attacks Mysterio and then lodges it into the turnbuckle hole on the post. Rey stops himself short of getting rammed into it and takes it out!

Springboard seated senton sets up a satellite headscissors, dropkick, Mysterio up top... FROG SPLASH! Trying to gouge Seth’s eye out, boot up on the charge... Sasha rolls to get her feet on the ropes, jockeying for position over the ropes, springboard lucha arm drag! Overhand chops from the Boss, staggering the champ, another lucha arm drag gets countered with a kick to the face!

Banks to the apron, Asuka with the running hip attack to knock her down! Sliding kick off the apron keeps Sasha competitive, diving sunset flip through the ropes but the Empress counters with a stomp! Sliding knee off the apron, back inside, thinking Asuka Lock but Banks puts her into the corner for double knees.

Armbreaker over the turnbuckles, cover for two, kneeling on Asukas hand to set her up for small joint manipulation, wrenching her fingers back to the full extent of Anfibio’s count! Kneeling armbar from the challenger, shifting gears to an inverted standing surfboard, and then breaking with a kick to the face.

Cover for two, striking in the corner, double knees ensue! Banks with a Vader Bomb knee drop... NOPE! Back to the surfboard, Asuka fights out, short-arm knees... URAKEN LAYS SASHA OUT!
Arm-trap crossface is locked in, Asuka reaching and crawling, she gest the ropes but Banks takes as much of the count as she can! Action to the apron, champ with forearms and front kick, trying to find a way to end it, waistlock over the ropes, bridging pin, no good! Duck a lariat, huge German suplex to Banks! Chest kicks follow, sliding knee... STILL NO!

Banks blocks one but gets caught by a German suplex, the Empress hammers her with a hip attack for another tight two! Headed up top, missile dropkick sidestepped, the Boss with a running knee... NOT ENOUGH! Up top, jockeying for position, overhead elbows knock the champion to the mat. Climbing back up... GERMAN SUPERPLEX BUT SASHA ROLLS THROUGH!

Corner knees, back up top but she slips off the ropes and comes up lame! Clutching her knee, screaming about how she has to be the champion, slugging it out forearm for forearm with Asuka on their knees and to their feet. Catch the arm, looking for an armbar, but ASuka gets the Asuka Lock! She can’t lock her hands, Bayley runs interference and ends up brawling with Kairi Sane on the floor!

Victory roll, reversed, jockeying for positon back and forth, Asuka Lock applied on the mat! Nowhere to go, reaching and stretching, Bayley tosses a title belt in and Banks taps but the referee doesn’t catch it! Asuka with a roundhouse kick to Bayley! The Boss has a tag title in her hands, referee Danilo Anfibio takes it away.

Charly Caruso is standing by with a medical update on Rey Mysterio.

He’s being taken to a local medical facility, but doctors say as long as the optic nerve isn’t severed and the blood vessels aren’t completely destroyed, there’s a chance to save Rey’s vision in that eye.

Dolph Ziggler announces the stipulation after introductions...

Dolph Ziggler vs. Drew McIntyre (c) (WWE Championship Extreme Rules for Dolph Ziggler Only and Also No Champion’s Advantage)

Throwing Dolph across the ring, ready for the Claymore but he rolls to the floor! Back inside, chairshot, Drew grabs the chair and throws it out of the ring!

Chops on the floor, Dolph puts him face-first into the post and then into the barricade! Getting a table out from under the ring as Drew breaks the count! Ziggler gets some chairs out and waffles Drew in the back over and over! Chairshot to the throat, Drew to the floor, gasping, but he catches Dolph on a dive and rams him into the apron before belly-to-belly suplexing him over the announce desk!

Clearing the announce table, setting Ziggler on top of it but Dolph counters and kicks him to the floor... FAMEASSER OFF THE TABLE!

Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt (Wyatt Swamp Fight)

Strowman drives up to the swamp and parks right in front of Wyatt, who’s rocking on his chair in the middle of the road. He tells Bray that he’s home and... the lights... go out... in the swamp? They come back up and Wyatt has disappeared, leaving Braun to throw the chair into a sign that reads “abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”

The Monster Among Men walks through the woods and gets blindsided by Not Luke Harper, who is wearing a mask. Not Erick Rowan joins in the fun in his dark boiler suit and mask, and Braun manages to fend them off only to be confronted by... himself? He’s wearing the black sheep mask and carrying a shovel, and he whacks himself with it!

Strowman wakes up somewhere in the Wyatt Family Compound, chained to a rocking chair and tormented by visions of all kinds of stuff. Broken Out in Love begins playing in the background as he starts rocking and then stops himself as Swamp Wizard Bray Wyatt walks up to him holding the lantern. Braun demands to be let loose, but Bray just welcomes him home and asks how he likes the place.

He tells Wyatt he hates him and Bray rambles back at him, saying he knows that his success is hollow and temporary, and what will they think when his fifteen minutes are up? He knows the answer, because Strowman can’t see where he belongs. They’re a bacteria, an infection, they invade and destroy, but Braun is special like he is.

That’s why he needs him, because together they could be like gods and rule this place. He tells Strowman that he’s not going back. He says Braun is a weapon that he will wield, but to get there he needs to destroy the monster he’s become. Strowman says he’ll never go back to doing Bray’s bidding, and Wyatt asks if he wants to see something really scary.

A shadowy figure walks from across the room holding a snake, waving it in Braun’s face and striking with it! Strowman wakes up unchained and fights off an attack from Not Harper and Not Rowan! A man with a shovel attacks him but Braun breaks the shovel and kicks him into the fire! Dude runs off, still on fire, screaming into the night.

A feminine voice calls out to Strowman from the darkness, asking him to come home. It’s Alexa Bliss, telling Braun to follow her! He stumbles off after the voice as she calls out, promising they’ll be together forever. Bray attacks and Braun knocks him out and into a boat! Wyatt drifts off into the night.

Strowman looks out into the water and sees the boat returning, empty. He wades out into the water and confirms that it’s empty, and Bray clocks him with the handle of a shovel! Choking Braun, trying to drown him in the swamp, he holds him under until the bubbles stop! Strowman comes up, gasping for air, and climbs back to the safety of the dock.

Bray waffles him with a shovel and draws him up but Braun shoves him away and stalks after him! Hitting him again and again with the handle, he lets out a primal scream as Strowman writhes in pain on the dock. Braun back up on his feet, Wyatt laughs but Strowman kicks him through a railing and back into the water!

He looks into the water and says it’s over.

We get the Extreme Rules bug that indicates it’s over.

Bray reaches up and pulls him into the water!

Wyatt comes up and gasps but gets pulled back in.

A red light shines through the water and the Fiend comes up, laughing.

I have no idea how to call a finish to that.

That’s the show, folks.

Universal Champion Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt in a SWAMP FIGHT airing tonight (Sun., July 19, 2020) as part of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view. The title will not be on the line. It is the latest cinematic effort from WWE, taped just days ago.

The story

These two used to run together, with Wyatt bringing Strowman into WWE via The Wyatt Family. They ran roughshod before eventually splitting apart. Strowman has found great success in the meantime, including becoming Universal champion. That’s what led Wyatt back to him.

He failed in his first attempt at Money in the Bank after Strowman used some “mind games” with a black sheep mask. Wyatt left for a while after that, but has returned to up the ante.

WWE championship match, Challenger chooses the stipulation

Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler has been beaten into the ground in WWE for over a decade. That didn’t stop the promotion from throwing Dolph into two WWE championship matches on pay-per-view with Kofi Kingston roughly one year ago, and it’s not stopping them from putting Dolph in a WWE championship match at Extreme Rules 2020.

The problem with that, of course, is that it’s almost impossible to take Ziggler seriously as a threat to the title given Dolph’s past booking for 10+ years. And you really don’t even need to go back that far to see it - the only singles victory Dolph has in 2020 is a win over Tucker.

That means WWE needed to throw in a twist to hopefully get a few people to think that Ziggler stands a chance. That twist came in the form of a secret stipulation. Dolph Ziggler will get to choose any stipulation that he wants, and he has elected to not reveal his choice until the match happens.

It’s a pretty good way to add some intrigue to the match. Will Dolph ban the Claymore? Will he force Drew to wrestle while wearing a blindfold? Will he challenge Drew to a Doomsday Inferno Punjabi Prison Iron Man Kiss My Swamp Ass Pillow Fight?

Dolph better choose a good stipulation, because the interest level in this match pretty much depends on what his stipulation turns out to be.

And Bayley wept, for there were no challengers left to conquer.

Or so it seemed, before Nikki Cross won a fatal four-way.

A lack of focus

Granted, Bayley and best friend Sasha Banks have largely been preoccupied with the Women’s Tag Team Championship since winning those titles for the second time back in May, cementing their status as self-proclaimed role models to the WWE Universe.

To win those tag titles, the Boss and Hug Connection had to overwhelm Nikki and her partner Alexa Bliss, so it’s fitting that Cross was the one to beat the pack and earn this title shot last month. A chance for the White Chocolate Cheesecake of Sports Entertainment to not only really establish herself with her first singles gold in WWE, but to hurt Bayley even more than she would by retaking the tag titles.

The record shows

So, we don’t have a story with a lot of twists and turns here. It’s pure simple challenger-and-champion pro wrestling with a little bit of revenge built into the subtext, and that means we keep things simple and we look at the numbers. What do we have when we look at the record?

Bayley and Nikki Cross have met in televised singles action six times, with Bayley having a decisive edge, four wins to Nikki’s one, and one no contest. That’s an 83.3% chance of the champ walking out with the title still around her waist, and as a man from a highly educated university once said, the numbers don’t lie.

And it makes sense! Bayley’s current reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion is over a hundred days longer than any other reign with that title to date. She is every bit the dominant champion she portrays herself as, and Nikki will have to dig deep and find every last ounce of scrap and determination she has if she wants to have a hope in hell of claiming the blue-and-white strap.

Will Bayley continue to Dos Straps or shall Nikki Cross claim the gold?
