WWE's TLC 2017 lasted for 3 hours 2 minutes and 57 seconds (3h 02m 57s). Here is a breakdown of the timing for every single second of the show, in chronological order.

The matches are in bold. The "pre-match" segments include video packages, entrances, ring introductions, and any verbal promos that occur right before a match officially begins. The "post-match" segments include any celebrations, replays, angles, attacks, or promos that occur right after a match is finished.

Match Times

The 7 matches combined for a total time of 1h 40m 07s. This means that 54.7% of the show was devoted to bell-to-bell action. This is the 34th highest percentage in this category out of the 66 WWE pay-per-view (PPV) events in my data set, which begins with Royal Rumble 2013.

Pre-match Segments

The pre-match segments combined for a total time of 42m 51s, which is 23.4% of the show. This is the 38th highest percentage in this category out of the 66 events in my data set.

Here is the sorted list of pre-match segment time for all 7 matches. For some context, keep in mind that the median pre-match segment time in my data set is 5m 29s and the average time is 6m 10s.

The two earlier segments in the night where Jason Jordan tossed vegetables at Elias were not classified as pre-match segments, because they did not occur in close proximity to the beginning of their eventual match.

Post-match Segments

The post-match segments combined for a total time of 14m 55s, which is 8.2% of the show. This is the 44th highest percentage in this category out of the 66 events in my data set.

Miscellaneous Segments

That leaves about 13.7% (25m 04s) of the show for everything else. This is the 19th highest percentage in this category out of the 66 events in my data set.

Most of these miscellaneous segments are crammed into the time after one post-match segment ends and before the next pre-match segment begins. TLC 2017 included 7 different blocks of miscellaneous segments. Here is how long each block lasted, in chronological order:

Block 1: 3m 10s (Then Now Forever; Opening hype video)

Block 2: 9m 24s (Unleash your warrior; Backstage with Team Miz; Elias performs; Ad for WWE 2K18)

Block 3: 1m 41s (Ad for Digiorno Crispy Pan Pizza; Ad for WWE Shop; Rock tweet)

Block 4: 6m 21s (Ad for Survivor Series; Backstage with Olympic Shield; Elias performs)

Block 5: 2m 02s (Ad for WrestleMania 34; Hype for Raw; Paralyzed Veterans of America ringside)

Block 6: 1m 11s (Ad for Ride Along; Unleash your warrior)

Block 7: 1m 15s (Hype for Survivor Series; Hype for Raw Talk)

Summary

The overall run time for TLC 2017 was 3h 02m 57s, and this ranks 20th highest out of all 66 events in my data set.

Here is a listing of how much total show time was allocated for each match when you add up all 3 components: pre-match time, match time, and post-match time. This list also includes where each total time ranks among the 473 entries in my data set.

48m 23s: Olympic Shield vs. Team Miz (16th longest out of 473 entries)

27m 47s: AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor (125th)

21m 06s: Alexa Bliss vs. Mickie James (217th)

19m 36s: Kalisto vs. Enzo Amore (249th)

15m 11s: Asuka vs. Emma (338th)

13m 43s: Swann & Alexander vs. Gallagher & Kendrick (367th)

12m 07s: Jason Jordan vs. Elias (401st)

The listed time for Jordan and Elias does not include the two earlier segments in the show when Jason Jordan tossed vegetables at Elias. Those two segments combined to last 6m 50s, and if you add that on to the time listed here, that would raise the total show time for them up to 18m 57s.

Now here is a look at the "Match Time Percentage" for each match. For any given match, this percentage shows how the match time compares to the combined pre-match and post-match segment time. For some context, it's good to know that the median result here since 2013 is 62.9%.

(Here's an example calculation: an entry with a match time of 6m 00s, pre-match time of 3m 00s, and a post-match time of 1m 00s has a score of 60.0%, because the match time of 6m 00s is 60% of the total sum of 10m 00s for all three components.)

73.4%: Olympic Shield vs. Team Miz

72.4%: Jason Jordan vs. Elias

65.7%: AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor

62.1%: Asuka vs. Emma

57.7%: Swann & Alexander vs. Gallagher & Kendrick

54.0%: Alexa Bliss vs. Mickie James

45.1%: Kalisto vs. Enzo Amore

Once again, it should be noted that the data here for Jordan and Elias does not include the two earlier segments where Jordan tossed vegetables at Elias. If all of that time was added in, their match time percentage would drop to 46.3%.

38 unique performers wrestled in a match on the main card of WWE’s two pay-per-view (PPV) events in October, with 17 superstars featured at Hell in a Cell and 22 superstars featured at TLC (AJ Styles worked both shows).

With that in mind, let’s take a look at which performers have currently wrestled on the most consecutive PPVs at the conclusion of October 2017. The only rules are that the superstar must have wrestled for more than zero seconds on the main card of the PPV (sorry, pre-show fans), and brand-exclusive events will not be counted against roster members of the alternative brand.

And here are the streaks that ended this month.

12 events - Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns

4 events - Sasha Banks

3 events - Brock Lesnar, John Cena

1 event - Naomi, Bayley, Nia Jax, Neville

Kevin Owens has wrestled on the main card of every single WWE PPV (excluding off-brand shows) ever since his main roster call-up in May 2015. He must defeat Shinsuke Nakamura next week on SmackDown Live in order to qualify for the men’s 5-on-5 elimination match at Survivor Series. Otherwise this incredible streak will be at risk, because the rest of the PPV card has already been announced and there isn’t much room for additional matches. It seems probable that getting Kane versus Braun Strowman onto the card would be a higher priority for WWE than a match involving Kevin Owens, if Owens fails to qualify for that men’s 5-on-5 elimination match.

AJ Styles and Cesaro are also not locks to be involved in that 5-on-5 elimination match at Survivor Series, so the very top of this list could be radically altered in just a few weeks.

What do you think about this list of active streaks, Cagesiders?

Welcome to Cageside Community Star Ratings for TLC 2017!

For some wrestling fans, star ratings are a way of life. It’s one thing to say that a match is good or bad, but can you actually put a number on it?

The star rating system is a scale ranging from 0 to 5 with increments of 0.25. A 5-star match is as close to perfect as it gets while a 0-star match is a complete dud.

Determining the star rating for a given match is a highly subjective process. In general the goal is to wrap up all the important elements of a match into one simple number. Some factors to consider may include the story and booking of the match, the workrate of the performers, ring psychology, length of the match, audience reaction, and so forth.

There is no such thing as a wrong answer, because every wrestling fan consumes this art form in a different way.

The purpose of Cageside Community Star Ratings is for the readers to assign star ratings to every single match on a given WWE pay-per-view event. These results will be tabulated and summarized after every match on the pay-per-view has been voted on by the community.

The next match up for debate from TLC 2017 is Asuka versus Emma.
