It really should be happening on April 20, but Matt Riddle is set to face WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam on Mar. 9.
That was the first match Riddle booked after being released by WWE in September. But it won’t be the mixed martial artist-turned-pro wrestler’s first match since being let go. That’s because Riddle was just announced for a date on Maryland Championship Wrestling’s Winter Blast Tour.

No opponent for Riddle, or any actual confirmation he’s wrestling. But the way he’s being promoted, it seems reasonable to assume he will.
Riddle and the rest of the post-Endeavor merger releases should be clear to start showing up elsewhere in the second half of December. Riddle’s circumstances may be different, seeing as he was among the last cuts and rumored to be as much a “for cause” firing as a budget cut.
But for now, it looks like his return to the independents will kick off next year.
