‘All Elite Wrestling’ trademark filings seem to support reports of Cody & The Bucks could be starting their own promotion

Last month, a report hit from SEScoops saying Chris Jericho, Jim Ross and The Elite crew led by Cody Rhodes & The Young Bucks were exploring starting a new wrestling promotion, backed by the billionaire Khan family. Jericho scoffed at the report. AXS TV, which was mentioned as the new company’s broadcast partner, issued a denial statement regarding their involvement.

Maybe it is bunk, and this is just a giant coincidence. Or maybe Y2J and AXS aren’t involved, but The Elite are. Time will tell. In the meantime, these trademark filings discovered by wrestlingnew.co (via this w/reddit thread - which is being updated with new information) are very interesting...

A group called All Elite Wrestling, LLC, who lists their address as 1 TIAA Bank Field Drive in Jacksonville - the address of the stadium owned by Shad Khan which also serves as home field for his NFL franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars - is seeking to register trademarks on the following:

  • “All Elite Wrestling” and the acronym “AEW”
  • “AEW Double or Nothing” and “AEW All Out” - a follow-up story from Pro Wrestling Sheet reports the filing lists these trademarks can be used for “live streaming of video pay-per-view events on the internet”. Double or Nothing has also been rumored as a possible name for a follow-up to the sold out ALL IN show Rhodes and the Bucks promoted this past August.
  • “Tuesday Night Dynamite” - listed for use with television programs “featuring sports, entertainment and subjects of general human interest”, among other things.

Pro Wrestling Sheet also included a couple design images from the filing documents, one of which certainly looks like it’s meant to evoke the logo of the indie supershow held in Chicagoland this summer:

We’re still a long way from an official announcement of anything, but there is at least some fire under that smoke which could be coming WWE’s way. We’ll have more of an idea in a few weeks when The Elite teams’ current contracts expire and Rhodes, Matt & Nick Jackson, Kenny Omega and Adam Page finish up their obligations to New Japan & Ring of Honor (ROH).
