Cody Rhodes reportedly set for knee surgery after Wrestle Kingdom

Cody Rhodes shared with fans his concern regarding a knee injury he suffered while teasing throwing a t-shirt to fans on the Ring of Honor (ROH) Global Wars tour last weekend. He had to pull out of his planned IWGP United States championship defense against Beretta as a result, and shared the good news/bad news results of his initial visit to the doctor to get his knee checked out.

The MRI results came in on Friday (Nov. 16) according to Wrestling Observer, and turns out it’s a little worse than the initial “bad news”, but not enough to change Rhodes’ plan. Cody’s medial meniscus is torn, and will require surgery that should sideline him for six weeks.

He’ll also make appearances on a late November tour of Australia, but not perform in-ring. He has two big dates on his late 2018/early 2019 calendar, and plans to work both while getting non-surgical treatment on the knee. First up is the Dec. 14 ROH Final Battle pay-per-view (PPV) against Jay Lethal in what Cody says will be his final appearance for the company. Then, he’ll wrestle in a still-unannounced match at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom 13 event at the Tokyo Dome on Jan. 4.

After that, surgery to repair his meniscus. And during the six weeks he’s rehabbing from that, probably a lot of teases, rumors and reports about what he and the rest of The Elite will be doing and where they’ll be working in 2019.
