During their Final Resolution streaming special, Impact Wrestling revealed they’d signed former WWE NXT Tag champ Trent Seven. KUSHIDA spent most of his career with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he held their IWGP Junior Heavyweight championship six times, and that division’s tag belts on three different occasions — including a reign earlier this year with Kevin Knight (his previous two were with Impact’s Alex Shelley, who team as Time Splitters). In between stints in New Japan KUSHIDA was under contract to WWE from 2019-2022, where he won NXT’s Cruiserweight title once.
After the 40 year old left WWE, he revealed he would continue to live in the United States. KUSHIDA’s latest NJPW run featured appearances in Japan and for the company’s U.S.-based Strong brand. He also worked a few Impact shows in that time, including their 1,000th episode of television and their Rebellion and Victory Road streaming specials.
Terms of the deal weren’t announced, but KUSHIDA will be in the fold for the TNA relaunch on Jan. 13 in Las Vegas.
