Knockouts Championship dream match official for Impact Bound for Glory

Get ready for a Knockouts Championship dream match at Bound for Glory on October 23. Ever since Mickie James began milling around the Impact Zone to promote NWA Empowerrr, fans have been eager to see her challenge Deonna Purrazzo. That match is now official.

Purrazzo made it personal by attacking James at NWA 73. James dished out a receipt last week in the Impact Zone with a Hardcore Country beatdown of the champ. On tonight’s episode of Impact Wrestling, James called out Purrazzo for a face-to-face showdown.

James officially declared her intention to challenge for the Knockouts Championship. Purrazzo replied that she owes nothing to James and her attempt at staying relevant. Purrazzo never idolized James, so this match didn’t interest the champ.

Purrazzo requested that James actually earn the honor of stepping in the ring to battle the Virtuosa with gold on the line. One thing led to another and a skirmish ensued. As Purrazzo wound up for a punch, James gave her five across the eyes. High heels brawling was broken up by security.

EVP Scott D’Amore sided with James as a pillar of Impact history. He made the match official for Bound for Glory.

The Bound for Glory PPV is scheduled for October 23. The current lineup includes:

  • Impact World Championship: Christian Cage (c) vs. Josh Alexander
  • Knockouts Championship: Deonna Purrazzo (c) vs. Mickie James
  • X-Division Championship: TBD vs. TBD vs. TBD
  • Call Your Shot Gauntlet: Rich Swann, Bryan Myers, more to be announced

With Josh Alexander cashing in Option C to challenge for the world title, that means the X-Division Championship is vacant. Impact decided to find a new titleholder via triple threat tournament. Three triple threats will take place in the coming weeks on Impact Wrestling. The three winners will advance to a triple threat final at the PPV to be crowned X-Division champ. It starts next week with Laredo Kid, Trey Miguel, and Alex Zayne.

Since Willie Mack also announced his intention to chase X-Division gold, Rich Swann decided to enter the Call Your Shot Gauntlet. Brian Myers joined in to declare his candidacy. The winner of that contest earns the right to call their shot at a title match whenever they want for whichever title they want.
