It sounds like Kenny Omega’s days are done in Impact

Kenny Omega’s belt collector status took a hit when he lost the Impact World Championship to Christian Cage Friday night on Rampage. Along with the Impact title, Christian was also awarded the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, since those belts are unified.

Omega woke up this morning mourning the loss of gold. His baggage reflected the noticeable weight difference upon traveling to Mexico City to defend the AAA Megacampeonato Saturday night against Andrade at Triplemania XXIX.

Omega’s future with Impact is up in the air at the moment. Without their titles in his possession, there isn’t much reason for him to continue appearing in the Impact Zone. One man in particular seems to be pleased that he won’t have to deal with Omega or Don Callis. Impact head honcho Scott D’Amore said goodbye to the God of Pro Wrestling and the Invisible Hand.

D’Amore is a bit of a blowhard character, so his gloating doesn’t necessarily signify that the Forbidden Door has officially closed on Omega. It sure sounds like it though. Only time will tell for sure. The man put in work to make history, and he deserves a break if that is what he desires.

With or without Omega, life carries on in the Impact Zone. Winning the Impact gold was a surreal moment for Christian considering his history running deep with Impact.

Christian will fulfill all Impact obligations as their new world champion, starting with his presence at two of the three TV taping days for Impact Wrestling.

Christian’s first title defense will be against Brian Myers on Friday, August 20 at Impact’s Emergence special event. Myers won the #1 contender status by surviving a battle royal.

The lineup for Emergence on Friday, August 20 currently stands at:

  • Impact World Championship: Christian Cage (c) vs. Brian Myers
  • Impact World Tag Team Championship: Good Brothers (c) vs. Violent by Design vs. Rich Swann & Willie Mack
  • X-Division Championship: Josh Alexander (c) vs. Jake Something
  • Steve Maclin vs. Petey Williams

Do you think Kenny Omega is finished with Impact? If this is indeed the end of his run, how would you rate the experiment? Will Christian Cage’s presence in the Impact Zone make your more likely to tune in Thursday nights on AXS TV?
