Impact Emergence night 2 preview & predictions: Historic Knockouts ironman match

Night 1 of Impact’s Emergence special event had one title change. Night 2 will have its chance to make news with two championship contests. Let’s break down the card and make predictions for the action tonight (Aug. 25) on AXS TV and Impact’s Twitch channel at 8 pm ET.

Knockouts Championship: Deonna Purrazzo (c) vs Jordynne Grace

Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace will be making Impact history with the first-ever Knockouts Championship 30-minute ironman match.

Purrazzo came to Impact to make an impact. She had her eyes on gold, so she attacked Jordynne Grace to get her attention. That was enough to earn a Knockouts title match. Purrazzo used her submission skills to win the belt at Slammiversary. Grace cashed in her automatic rematch for Emergence, however, Purrazzo upped the stakes to an ironman match.

This bout has potential to be special. Their Slammiversary clash was very good and arguably stole the show. Impact obviously feels the same way, since they rewarded Purrazzo and Grace with the main event slot for Emergence. The style will be Purrazzo’s submission prowess against Grace’s hossette power. I’m expecting the finish to come down to the buzzer with either an armbar from Purrazzo or a rear naked choke from Grace.

Prediction: Deonna Purrazzo retains. I’m tempted to pick a title change, but Purrazzo has shown that she is too smart for Jordynne Grace. Everything that has happened so far in this feud has been perfectly to plan for Purrazzo. When Purrazzo picked an ironman stipulation, she must have had good reason for it. This will be the Virtuosa’s chance to paint a masterpiece.

World Championship: Eddie Edwards (c) open challenge

Eddie Edwards’ weekly open challenge for the Impact World Championship will eventually lead to Eric Young. The question is when. Young wants to do it on his time. My guess is either tonight or at the Bound for Glory PPV on October 24. Whenever those two finally clash, it will be heated. Edwards is disgusted with EY’s attacks on Rich Swann.

If it isn’t Young tonight, then it should be someone with enough name value to pop excitement for a special event. RVD would be a good fit. If Mr. Tuesday Night answers the call, then don’t be surprised if Sami Callihan makes life difficult for RVD. Callihan was ambushed by RVD and Katie Forbes a few weeks ago when challenging Edwards. The altercation was payback for Callihan using his hacker skills to ruin Forbes’ website debut.

Prediction: Eddie Edwards retains. His goal with the weekly open challenge is to bring prestige back to the belt. That hasn’t happened yet, and I don’t see Edwards losing until he does. Holding off a title change until at least Bound for Glory would give Edwards 12 defenses. That would be impressive.

Willie Mack vs Brian Myers

Brian Myers is the most professional wrestler. After losing an open challenge championship bout to Eddie Edwards, Myers’ frustration boiled. In an effort to take his career into his own hands, Myers hijacked the camera crew during Willie Mack’s interview. Myers had time to throw verbal shade at Vince McMahon before Mack came back for a mini fisticuffs session.

The result of this bout will be telling for Myers’ position in Impact. A loss will show he’s still the same low level enhancement worker as with WWE. A win over the former X-Division champion could signify an effort to break away from jobber status.

Prediction: Willie Mack wins. Myers can’t handle Mack’s unique package of skills.

Impact is also promoting why EC3 stole Moose’s TNA Heavyweight strap and more from their Wrestle House fake reality show.

What are your predictions for night 2 of Emergence? Which match will steal the show? Who would you love to see answer the open challenge?
