The award for Moment of the Year went to the debuts and returns at Slammiversary involving the Motor City Machine Guns, Eric Young, EC3, Good Brothers, and Heath.
The Match of the Year for 2020 went to the five-way World Championship fight at Slammiversary with Eddie Edwards, Rich Swann, Eric Young, Trey Miguel, and Ace Austin.
As winner of the bout, Eddie Edwards was granted the honor of accepting the award.
The best matches and moments list included highlights for:
- X-Division Championship: Ace Austin vs Willie Mack (Emergence Night 1)
- Tag Team Championship: The North vs Motor City Machine Guns (Impact Wrestling)
- X-Division Championship: Rohit Raju vs Manik (Final Resolution)
- Rich Swann’s roller coaster year
- Wrestle House
- The Rock inducting Ken Shamrock into the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame
In fresh story beats, Deonna Purrazzo accepted Taya’s challenge for a Knockouts title fight at Hard to Kill on January 16. Acey Romero investigated Crazzy Steve for framing Larry D. Steve declared his innocence and pointed the finger toward Johnny Swinger.
My pick for Moment of the Year would go to Rich Swann’s triumphant return to win the Impact World Championship. His recovery from injury made for a feel-good moment. Match of the Year is tough to call, since I can barely remember matches from last week. If forced to pick off the top of my head, I’d probably go with one of the contests from the series between Eddie Edwards and Michael Elgin. Their encounters were slobberknockers.
What are your picks for Moment of the Year and Match of the Year in Impact?
