Brian Cage says his back might be fractured, but he doesn’t think he’ll miss much time

After a night in the hospital, new Impact World champ Brian Cage called in to Sirius XM’s Busted Open this morning to chat with Bully Ray and Dave LaGreca. He gave an update on his injury - including what it was like to finish the match after it occurred, and what his prognosis is going forward.

“So right away, right when we hit, I’m rolling and I feel the pain shoot down my leg, and I don’t know - just a feeling I’ve never had before in my life. Instantly I’m thinking ruptured disc or whatever... and I’m gonna have to have surgery or something. And I’m like, ‘okay - maybe it’ll go away, maybe it’ll go away, maybe it’ll go away’. And just trying to enter the ring after that moment... rolling into the ring, hip over hip and trying to get up I just felt like there was no strength there, and the pain just shot down my leg again. I was like, ‘crap’.

It felt almost a little bit better... like, ‘maybe it’ll subside here, just like a flash thing’. And then, I think I was in the corner and I say to John [Hennigan/Impact], ‘I’m trying to move’ and there’s just nothing - I just couldn’t. I just felt so slow and, no pun intended, so robotic in my mannerisms and movements because of the pain. I just was like, ‘okay, this is serious’. I didn’t know to what degree, like, am I gonna need back surgery now or what’s wrong, what’s going on, I don’t know, because I’ve never had this kind of pain in my back, and also that felt like nerve-related, so to speak.

It doesn’t look like I’m going out. [The doctor said] I think you’re gonna be fine, you just have severe inflammation and bone bruise, there could be a small fracture there... however, if it is a fracture, I don’t see it being any major fracture and even then, there’s nothing you can do much for that, so maybe just err on the side of caution.”

Sounds scary, and like there may be some tests involved. But I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised this is Cage’s reaction. He is a f’n machine, after all.
