Impact Wrestling returns tonight (Aug. 29) from the Rebel Complex in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This is the second episode from the most recent set of tapings and their Redefined special.
Here’s what’s advertised for tonight:
- Allie vs. Tessa Blanchard vs. Su Yung (c) for the Knockouts championship
- Fenix vs. Brian Cage (c) for the X Division championship
- Austin Aries & Killer Kross vs. Moose & Eddie Edwards
- The Smoke Show with Scarlett Bordeaux featuring Grado, Katarina, & Joe Hendry
- Rich Swann vs. Petey Williams
As per usual, here are our five questions about Impact tonight:
1) Who is Austin Aries next title challenger?
Austin Aries will team with his heavy Killer Kross to take on Moose and Eddie Edwards. Moose & Edwards represent the last two people that Austin Aries defeated to retain his title.
Given that they are both in a tag match against the champion, it seems like they are both still likely contenders despite having lost to Aries recently. (Eddie probably a tad moreso because Killer Kross helped Aries retain his title against Edwards while Moose lost pretty clean).
Other people to consider are Pentagon Jr., who still has a rematch coming his way since he lost the title to Aries a ways back. Having just lost a gimmick Mexican Death Match to Sami Callihan, it probably won’t be right away.
Aries has also had issues with Anthony Carelli, though I don’t think the former Santino Marella is healthy enough to work a legit single’s match.
2) What are the consequences for Henandez, King, and Homicide?
Last week, the OGz ran over a child with their car when they were targetting LAX during an outdoor celebration.
Yes, I’m being serious.
That’s a pretty heinous crime. The announcers did the bit where they talked all solemnly after it happened. So what’s the consequence?
This is probably the most legit criminal thing that a heel has recently done to get heat. Killer Kross attacked people from behind backstage for months. But it was inside a wrestling complex and they were all adults being attacked.
Kross was punished for his actions by... it looks like they signed him to a contract. But in the world of kayfabe, this is much worse.
Are they going to ignore the legit legal ramifications or blood for blood response that a rival gang could resort to? Probably. This isn’t Lucha Underground. People don’t get killed off in storyline. It’ll probably be some unsanctioned match, though that seems like a pretty weak response to three guys possibly murdering a child.
3) When is Rosemary going to make her presence known?
I ask this every month or so, but that’s continues to be something I always think about when watching the Knockouts.
Last I saw, Rosemary was starting light activity after a knee surgery. She’s probably not ready to get in the ring and tear it up yet. But perhaps she’s close enough that she can finally make her presence known in Impact again.
Rosemary can slowly stalk Su Yung for a couple months before they have to pay it off at Bound for Glory or something along those lines.
4) What’s the main event?
This is a show that is pretty much a mini-PPV. Which is why I’m curious what the main event with.
They have three good options.
They have two titles they can put on last. There’s a triple threat Knockouts match and Impact has no problem letting the ladies close the show. And this should be a very good match.
The X Division title match has a chance too. It’s obvious that Brian Cage is the future of the company and his match with Fenix should rule. Plus, the X Division championship is a staple of Impact.
Then there’s the tag match involving Austin Aries. It’s not for a title, but it has main title implications. The Impact world title has often been the main event story when on TV, so it has a chance.
My guess? The Knockouts title. But we’ll see.
5) Will Scarlett Bordeaux be able to help Grado and co.?
Scarlett Bordeaux is bringing back her Smoke Show talkshow tonight. This will be her second installment.
Her first installment featured KM and Fallah Bahh. Despite it being extremely goofy, it led to KM and Bahh getting on the same page.
Will she work the same magic for Grado, Katarina, and Joe Hendry?
It will be tougher this time around. KM and Fallah always wanted to be on the same page. They just needed to get out of their own way. But a love triangle? That’s more complicated. There’s no doubt that Hendry and Katarina have feelings for each other and Grado is dating Katarina. That’s not something easy to overcome. Someone’s getting hurt.
Unless she suggests polygamy? Maybe that’d work.
