Impact Wrestling results, live blog (May 23, 2018): Sydal vs. Fantasma

Impact Wrestling is back tonight (May 23) from Orlando, Florida and will be airing on Pop TV at 8 PM EST. This is your spot for the live updates and to talk about it with your fellow fans.

Tonight Matt Sydal will defend his X Division title against El Hijo de Fantasma. Also, Moose will face Kongo Kong, oVe battles Aerostar & Drago, LAX takes on the Cult of Lee, and Dezmond Xavier wrestles Petey Williams.

We’ll be here at 8 EST when Impact starts, so come join us!

Starts with the recap video for last week’s episode.

Don Callis back on commentary.

oVe (with Sami Callihan) vs. Aerostar & Drago

oVe with control early on. When Drago was tossed out of the ring, Sami nailed him when the ref wasn’t looking.

We see a shot of the backstage of Eddie Edwards arriving with a kendo stick. His wife Alisha is following him, yelling at him to stop.

He’s soon in the ring taking the kendo stick to Dave Crist. And then Sami Callihan! He’s trying to choke out Callihan with the kendo stick! The officials try to get him off of Sami but they can’t. Alisha is at ringside shouting “It’s over!” Callihan has passed out as a slew of security holds Eddie back!

oVe probably win by DQ but there’s no official call on that.

Eddie looks to be leaving the ring but he uses the kendo stick on security instead! Luckily Callihan has been removed by the refs.

Backstage, Alisha upset, asking Eddie what is wrong with him. She tells him “You’re acting just like him!” Edwards says he’s nothing like Callihan. He says last week’s street fight wasn’t enough. He needs to finish him. It’s not over until he says it’s over.

LAX vs. the Cult of Lee

Starts with a brawl outside the ring. Cult of Lee seem more in control. Actually, fully in control.

After some gloating in the ring, the fight ends up outside again and this time LAX is in charge.

Lee and Konley dominate much of this match.

LAX was able to take back control and looked to have things going well. However when they were going for a double team move on Konley, Santana hit the ropes where Lee trips him up and Caleb rolled up Santana with a handful of tights for the 1-2-3.

Jimmy Jacobs and Kongo Kong are interviewed by McKenzie Mitchell backstage. Jacobs reiterates his new talking point that he’s not a bad guy. He’s a good guy. But Moose is a bad guy. Last week, they were just trying to write a wrong when Grado accused Kongo of something he didn’t do when Moose put a stop to that. Tonight, he wants to see Kong break Moose into a million pieces.

Backstage, KM is still pep talking Fallah Bahh when they come upon Grado and Katarina. KM says if a fatass like Grado can get a girl like that, imagine what Fallah can do. He asks how a girl like that can even get Grado and Katarina says she a bit of a chubby chaser. At first Grado is offended but she talks herself out of it.

GWN video of a promo between current WWE US champion Jeff Hardy and current Ring of Honor enforcer (I think - Joe Koff may have taken that title from him) Bully Ray. Brooke Hogan is there too. This was Bully Ray turned heel and revealed himself as the leader of the Aces and 8s. Oh and here comes Hulk Hogan.

Madison Rayne interviewed backstage. She’s explaining her actions from last week when interrupted by Tessa Blanchard for getting in her business.

Z & E are interviewed backstage by Mitchell. They’re interrupted by Scott Steiner and Eli Drake. Steiner is pissed, telling the champs that he and Drake beat themselves. Drake tries to calm the big man down and Steiner blames him for the loss. They start yelling at each other.

El Hijo de Fantasma vs. Matt Sydal (c) for the X Division title

Towards the end of the match, with was an overall back and forth affair, Fantasma rolled out of the way of a shooting star press. Matt landed on his feet but seemed to tweak his knee. Fantasma immediately went in with a deathlock to work the knee further.

However when Fantasma had Sydal on his shoulders, Matt slipped out, pulled Fantasma’s arm through his legs, and then turned that into a roll up for the win.

Santana and Ortiz are back in the clubhouse PISSED. Eddie Kingston rolls in and tells them Konnan told him he got jumped. But he’s safe right now. Homicide is with Konnan at the safe spot. He then addresses the losing streak and tells them he needs them to step up.

Video package prepping the title match for next week. Austin Aries cuts an interview in it making the point that Pentagon never beat him one on one.

Dezmond Xavier vs. Petey Williams

The winner of this match will face Brian Cage next week.

Petey tries to hit the Canadian Destroyer early and Dezmond rolls himself right out of the ring.

This is a very good back and forth match which Xavier wins with a flip kick to the head of Petey.

Xavier def. Petey

There’s a post match handshake.

We see a pretty sweet video package of Allie preparing for her match in front of the mirror. She’s wearing her own Demon make up! She picks up a cross (that may have had a stake on the long end) and we see written in red on the mirror a note “B - Don’t let the darkness consume you. -R.”

Moose vs. Kongo Kong

Jimmy Jacobs did not walk out with Kongo Kong. And Kong looked back, wondering where he is.

Starts with Moose at the disadvantage. But after Kong knocks him down, he kips back up. However with all his offense, he can’t get Kongo off his feet. Their fight spills outside. Kongo tosses Moose into the ring steps. He looks around for a bit, possibly looking to Jacobs for instruction, but Jacobs isn’t there. He then cannonballs himself into Moose!

Kongo Kong looks willing to take a count out from this but just beats it at 9. The monster is still able to hold control of the match for awhile. It eventually becomes a back and forth.

Kong misses a top rope splash. Moose hits three bicycle kicks and then a slam. And then a spear! 1-2-3.

Moose def. Kongo Kong

As the show is fading out, we get the symbol of the attacker ... and a video that shows that they laid out Jimmy Jacobs and left the calling card! Who is the mystery attacker?

That’s the show, folks. Thanks for watching with us!
