Less than 24 hours after Alberto El Patron failed to appear for his scheduled tag team main event with Pentagon Jr. against Austin Aries and Fenix at Impact vs. Lucha Underground, Impact Wrestling has released their former World Champion - and the man who was scheduled to face Aries for that title at their Redemption pay-per-view (PPV) event on April 22.

“IMPACT Wrestling announced today that it has terminated its agreement with Alberto El Patron, effective immediately.”

PWInsider reports that after El Patron failed to appear for the show last night, Impact President Ed Nordholm attempted to check on him at the hotel where they were both staying. When he was unable to reach him, company officials became so concerned for Alberto’s well being they considered contacting the police to check on him.

After he missed another scheduled appearances at WrestleCon in New Orleans today (Sat., April 7), the decision was made to release the former WWE star.

Insider says a statement from El Patron is forthcoming. We’ll bring you that as we have it, along with any news about his next move (there were rumors he met with Vince McMahon last month about returning to WWE) and what Impact plans to do with their main event scene once again in turmoil following an issue with the second-generation Mexican wrestler.
